Apparitions

We are concerned
With this frontal apparition
It captivates us
And pulls at our minds
The threat it represents
Is real and must be addressed
To this we all agree fully
And we go to work

The undertaking is effortful
We want to do it justice
Root-cause analysis and resolution
Taking generations

I am not here for it
Nor the resolution
I am here to snap my fingers
At your eyes with my words
To hold your chin in my hand
Pull your face away from the task
And look into your eyes with my spirit

Not to worry
It’s for justly a moment
Only once in every while
I’m searching for stagnancy
Which causes souls agony

Bite down on this
If I succeed
I’ll have prevented stillness
Or shattered its silence
A flash of anguish
Or an instant of revelation
Before you return to your task

Look Up

Look up,
See the vastness,
Of our world,
Let your eyes swim in the sky blue,
And glide along the giant cotton balls,
The depth mesmerizes,
And dizzies.

Concrete recalls our attention,
Walls go up around our thoughts,
We look down,
And our world becomes resized,
To manageable compartments,
Defying even our imagination.

A meditation on the Present

The gates to heaven
Have always been wide open
For any to enter
There are no angels
Or saints waiting
You may walk right through
But don’t expect anything
Anyone can walk through
Only those who believe
They can make their own heaven
Are set free

There is a duality to this place
Those who walk through
The freely open doors
Expecting to be given
What was promised
Those never leave
Spending eternity in Paradise
They haunt and become haunted
The Rusty Gates are always open
But they aren’t capable
Of leaving
The hell they created for themselves

Depression

Unyielding,
Immoveable and dense,
Stuck in place,
A blank mind,
Submerged in quicksand.

Freedom

This beautiful bird,
Settling on a perch,
Colourfully bright,
With beak and bite,
And full of pride,
What a sight!

Here in this locked cage,
Again prepares her rage,
The fight of at least an age,
Well-worn this page.

She readies her stance,
For this next dance,
Her beak a sharp lance,
Eyes in a keen trance.

Moving swiftly into action,
Reduces her obstacle to a fraction!

This winged warrior,
Victorious in this skirmish,
Exits her prison with belief,
And with a sigh of relief,
Moves closer to freedom.

Finding comfort in larger bounds,
She claims the next perch,
And with keen eyes starts to search,
For the target of her next lurch.
